Protect Our Rights--Get Involved!

We've been bombarded by cruel executive orders & a GOP that wants to harm the welfare of 80 million Americans by gutting Medicaid. The Supreme Court has enabled this toxic behavior. Senator Cory Booker gave the longest speech in Senate history recently, saying, "At stake right now are some of our most basic American principles – principles that so many Americans understand are worth fighting for, worth standing for, worth speaking up for." He also said, "The power of the people is greater than the people in power." Here are some ways to get involved in a few minutes that help make your voice heard & protect out democracy & vital protections for vulnerable communities.

Actions you can take

  1. Signup to attend Our 5/17 #HandsOff Event

10 Minutes A Day & DIYabled are disability-led nonprofits that held one of the only virtual #HandsOff events on 4/5. We're doing another larger one, that will include art, music, & workshops to protect your rights. Sign up here to get the event invites & participate in our interactive #HandsOff protest that's coming up on 5/17, & we'll have a planning session on 4/20. If you sign up, you'll get invites to all of our meetings & events! We don't send newsletters/spam, just event invites!

  2. Protect & Support Accessibility!

10 Minutes A Day & DIYabled are two intersectional, disability-led nonprofit organizations focused on marginalized communities, especially disabled people. We've teamed up to host another #HandsOff event & will be doing more events that are accessible & inclusive. To do this, we need help from people to cover the costs of accessibility features, like ASL, live captions, changing Zoom to accommodate people, chat leads to make sure everyone is included, & more. Please contribute what you can--it allows us to create options that all of us can take part in. These services are costly, but they're worth it!

  3. Speak Up: Sign a Petition to Send to Your Elected Officials!

Elon Musk was not elected, but he has taken over, cutting tens of thousands of vital federal jobs & proposing a budget that doesn't work for Americans. Common Cause has a petition that will be delivered to your elected officials, asking them to stop letting Musk's budget cuts, which will hurt all of us but billionaires & wealthy corporations, which you can sign today!

  4. Share Our Action Items & Get Your Community Involved!

If you took one of our actions today, tell your friends & loved ones, so that together, we can be make a lot of noise & be heard by the GOP. A lot of them have heard from their constituents, but many more have avoided town halls & meeting with the people they represent. Share a link the link to our page on Facebook to let people know about out work, resources, & what they can do in 10 Minutes A Day now! You can also give them our website for the actions for today.

  5. Make Sure You're Registered to Vote!

30 states have elections this year, & there are elections that will help determine the balance of power in the Senate & on state Supreme courts this year. Register to vote if you haven't already. If you have, check your voting registration status--sometimes, a state will take a voter off of their active voting list even when that person registered, so this is an important thing to do every year & about 2-3 weeks before elections in your area. Register or check your registration status with this button.
